I have decided to change my Free Inquiry project to learning about the different Indigenous communities and areas in BC. My knowledge of Indigenous communities is quite limited and when I become a teacher I wish to incorporate Indigenous ways of learning into my classroom as well as celebrate the Indigenous diversity in BC.
The Province of British Columbia is home to 203 First Nations. I will explore each of the 8 Indigenous communities in different blog posts:
- Nechako
- Northeast
- North Coast
- Cariboo
- Vancouver Island & Coast
- Lower Mainland Southwest
- Thompson Okanagan
- Kootenay
Some questions I will be reflecting on as I conduct my research:
- How as a teacher will I bring awareness to Indigenous issues and educate children about Indigenous culture in my classroom?
- How as Educators do we Indigenize the curriculum?
- How can my learnings in this Technology class be used as tools for Indigenous education?
