Today is the first week of class in the Elementary PDPP Program at UVic. I am writing this reflection on my Technology course because I am impressed and surprised by the amount of integration of technology in the classroom today. When I was in school (I graduated high school in 2009), our computer lab consisted of old Microsoft computers. I was a faster typer than the computer teacher and my classmates knew more about different websites and some software than my own teacher did.

I acknowledge that I do have gaps in my own knowledge of technology and I am very keen for this course in order to learn more about new technologies for myself and for my classroom!

I wonder if classroom teachers are able to keep up with the speed of technology as well as their students are?

I wonder if letting students have access to cell phones in school is useful or a hindrance and just distracts them from learning?

I wonder how hard it will be to motivate students to learn about technology? I feel like students will often be able to teach ME about new technology! And they will be motivated to learn because we live in a digital age and even small children know the importance of technological saavy.
